"Long-term Neuroimaging of Human Neural Stem Cells following Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Injury"

8th of June, 11:00-12:00, Conference Room of the CGFB

A conference by Pr. Andre Obenaus, PhD, currently Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine at Loma Linda University (CA, USA) with a joint appoint in Department of Cell Biology & Neurosciences, University California Riverside (CA, USA).

Contact: Jérôme Badaut, Group leader Brain Molecular Imaging, UMR5287, jerome.baudaut@u-bordeaux.fr

Professor André Obenaus has a long-standing interest in the neuro-pathophysiology. One of his key interests is the use of non-invasive imaging and novel image analysis approaches to understand tissue physiology in health and disease. Along with his collaborators, he has numerous publications and funding using non-invasive imaging to understand the pathophysiology of disease as well as development of new therapeutical approaches for stroke, traumatic brain injury and epilepsy.

Today, his investigations will undertake a novel and unexplored research area, principally, does drug-induced remyelination restore white matter structure after brain injuries including closed head TBI. These research efforts will provide a basis for therapeutic interventions to improve white matter remyelination, leading to improved functional outcomes and ultimately may aid in the improved outcomes of TBI patients and other acquired brain injuries to assist remyelination.

In this talk, Dr Obenaus will introduce to the use of neuroimaging to track the benefits of the cell therapy after hypoxia ischemia. He will also discuss how these new developments and knowledge have been useful to undertake his new research interests on the changes in the white matter after brain injuries.
